Watauga 4/3/09

Well this is my first go at blogging...was required that we make a blogging site in a class at school so I figured why not do one about fishing. So the last time I went fishing was on 4/3 and couldnt wait to go after class. I had picked up some olive/black wooly boogers and just couldnt wait to fish them in some of my favorite deep runs. So after getting up on the river and finding out the weather was alot more horrible then I had planned made the first part of the day miserable with what felt like 30+ mph winds and rain about made me turn back also made me wish I had not left my rain jacket in the Jeep. As I started to fish the tail end of the run I managed to catch one small rainbow and in my anxiousness to get to the upper part prob fished the middle section faster then I should and didnt catch anything there but as I got the upper part I managed to get my best fish of the day a nice fat rainbow with alot more color on it then you normally see of the smaller hatchery fish.

So as I made my way upstream I also caught 2 brown trout of about 12-13" and was hoping a spot my brother caught two 17" browns last year would produce a nice brown again but it didnt so I had to head back down stream to try a couple of other spots and managed to get one more brown trout. I dont know if it was my timing or what but I started missing or having fish come off pretty frequently at this point. So by then I was cold so I went and warmed up for a bit and added another layer and grabbed my rain jacket this time and headed to another area farther downstream and my problem of having fish come off continued. I usually dont have this problem but today must have just not been my day. So now with the wind picking back up again I just wanted one more fish and once again with probly my biggest catch of the day came off and I desided to call it quits and head home. But over all a pretty good day considering the wind and pain it caused with casting but was worth it and the olive/black wooly booger produced like i thought it would. I do hope to go either this friday or saturday to more then likely the watauga or maybe a smaller mountain stream and I will try to update with that or some other old fishing trips I have pictures of.
